“We finish the race,” the President said at the memorial service. “We finish the race. And we do that because of who we are. And we do that because we know that somewhere around the bend a stranger has a cup of water. Around the bend somebody’s there to boost our spirits. On that toughest mile, just when we think that we’ve hit a wall, someone will be there to cheer us on and pick us up if we fall.”

Performance is a prime site for reflection on the risks and paradoxes of the social itself. Because performance negotiates both the encumbering realm of material making as well as the ephemeral realm of motion and affect, it is a place to investigate the paradoxes of social innovation and social obligation. It anticipates a future that cannot be known but on whose unfolding its identity depends.

LOCUS SOLUS

Sozita Goudouna -- Fri 24 Aug 2012 -- 0 reactions

Locus Solus is a labyrinthine installation, an entity with many
discrete parts (of spaces within spaces, of happenings within
happenings) that generates critical “points of view,” concerning visual and theatrical practice. Based on Raymond Roussel’s classic text, the production deploys a scenographic model based on an analogy between the central character’s laboratories and a museum (cabinet of curiosities). The laboratories with the ingenious inventions represent the gallery where visual artists exhibit their work. Focusing on artisticwork with materials and concepts derived from scientific research, artists approach Locus Solus on several levels: by concentrating on the use of
the machine, on research laboratory as an art studio, by
focusing on the concept of the experiment, on the human body and medicine, on artworks as new life forms and on the importance of “form” and “symmetry”. Hence, narrative exists in an expanded context in which performance, architecture and the objects, it contains, are fluid in use and meaning, shifting between levels of significance, spatiality and textuality. The project reconsiders the work of the proto-surrealist writer so as to examine intermediality as a radical force that operates in-between realities and that involves new modes of representation, new dramaturgical strategies, new ways of creating temporal and spatial interrelations.

The project is curated and conceived by Sozita Goudouna, the catalogue-chart is published to accompany the Exhibition
Locus Solus (Benaki Museum Athens - Pireos st Annexe 23

Introduction into Lacan

18.12.2010

Our talk:

Why Lacan? Lacan in cultural theory, the problem of the bad editions of lacanian texts, Lacan as a subject theory, links to Zizek, the fascination of the Real in philosophy, Freud: the perverted approach by humans to life, the subject in the history of philosophy (medieval time, Spinoza, Descartes, and a bridge to Lacan), history of science...

And at the end again: Why Lacan?

symposium meeting van Hove / Versweyveld

a.s -- Wed 29 Sep 2010 -- 0 reactions
Ivo van Hove is now director and artistic director of Toneelgroep Amsterdam in the Netherlands. In the eighties he was part of  the so-called Flemish Wave, a heteroclitic group of artists that brought a fresh breath of air to the performing arts in Belgium and then quickly conquered the international scene.  From his early beginnings on stage, scenographer and light designer Jan Versweyveld was his partner in crime. This symposium wants to reflect on their shared trajectory of almost thirty years.
With contributions and the collaboration of Pol Arias, Guy Cassiers, Pieter Bots, Gideon Lester, Klaas Tindemans, Johan Thielemans, Bart Van den Eynde, Koen Van Synghel, Chris Nietvelt, Halina Reijn, Johan Van assche & Peter Van Asbroeck.
The symposium is part of a larger program organized by deSingel on the performances of Ivo van Hove.

9th of Oktober 2010 from 11AM to 17PM

B.O.T. “ Boxes of Transiency” Performance by Maria Lucia

Maria Lucia Cruz Correia -- Sat 15 May 2010 -- 0 reactions

B.O.T.  Boxes of Transiency, suspend the  hidden fissures  of our existence. Using  healing as a metaphor, the clinical perception of human health condition, reflects  the state of  our planet  earth. An experiment, a  laboratory that  equally embraces the life of  species . Besides the ethical quest,  it relates the singularity and weakness of humanity towards the layers of the politics of nature.

EXPO 5
TENTOONSTELLING LAUREATEN THEATERVORMGEVING 2008
