Bracha L. Ettinger

In this lecture the artist and psychoanalyst Bracha L. Ettinger presents some of her concepts: trans-subjectivity, matrixial space / matrixial encounter, erotic (means active) border-linking.
For becoming clearer about them, I try to re-formulate them shortly. The matrixial space is a space of encounter, where one I meets one or more Non-I's (creating a web of encounters of I's meeting Non I's). Resonances, influences, pulsative intensities (Deleuze) can become possible. The condition is: allowing a certain fragilization of the self, a loosening of the self. There lies a potentiality in it, transformational work can happen (there's also therapeutic power in this fragilization). I and Non-I create together a shelf (?) of trans-subjectivity. Ettinger points out, that this takes time, and connects it to the idea of pregnancy.
Artists in general put themselves automatically in this field of fragilization, she says, by crossing individual boundaries, by the aesthetic transgression of individual borderlines. This includes the potential of trauma. Trauma is not understand as in the everyday sense, but as an event, for which we don't have a language (yet), an event which happens to the body in the Real. Analysis aims also to find a language for those events. Fantasy, phantasmatic products can help, too.
In an artistic research environment like a.pass the question of sharing comes up frequently: how to transgress the borderline? How to share? Ettinger says, that in a (matrixial) encounter-event it's not possible not to share, not to encounter, not to witness. I and Non-I are wit(h)nessing each other, they become partialized, vulnerable and fragilized subjects. The sharing in question is not about sameness, sharing the same informations, but to share the same event with a different information-input.
The matrixial web doesn't obey, Ettinger states, it's resisting, it's not playing the phallic game, therefore it can be subversive.
Co-response-ability is shared in the matrixial space.
Border-linking.
Metra-morphosis (the co-emergence and co-change of I and Non-I in the matrixial encounter)
Co-poiesis.
Matrixial border-time.
Erotic antenna of the psyche.
